Mizoram Football Association cracks down on match manipulation in Mizoram Premier League
The Mizoram Football Association (MFA) has taken strong action against clubs, officials, and players found guilty of match manipulation in the recently concluded Mizoram Premier League-11. The MFA’s investigation, conducted with support from local law enforcement, revealed corruption within the league, causing shock and disappointment among Mizoram’s dedicated football fans. The association has imposed serious penalties, aiming to protect the integrity of the sport and send a clear message against such activities.
In a statement issued on November 4, the MFA revealed that four clubs—Sihphir Venghlun FC, FC Bethlehem, Ramhlun Athletic FC, and Chawnpui FC—have been banned from all football-related activities for three years. These clubs were found complicit in manipulating match outcomes, an action that directly contradicts the league’s core principles and undermines the trust of Mizoram’s passionate football supporters.
Sanctions were also issued against several officials, with Robert Laldinthara receiving a five-year ban, while Danny Lalduhawma and Johny Ramthansanga were each banned for three years. These officials faced disciplinary action for their roles in unethical conduct, reflecting the MFA’s strong stance on upholding transparency in football.
In addition, 24 players from various clubs have been penalized with bans ranging from one year to lifetime suspensions. Notably, Lalnunzama of Chanmari FC and L. Lotha of FC Bethlehem received lifetime bans for their involvement in match manipulation. Players such as JH Lianzuala, Johny Lalrindika, Chandra Tamang, C Seillenlal Mate and Rony C Lalenkima of Sihphir Venghlun FC have been suspended for three to five years, depending on their degree of involvement. The disciplinary actions extend to players linked to clubs including Chanmari FC, FC Bethlehem, Ramhlun Athletic FC, and Sihphir Venghlun FC, showing the broad impact of the investigation’s findings.
In the statement issued on November 4, Honorary Secretary Lalrengpuia reinforced the MFA’s commitment to maintaining fair play and transparency. “We want to assure all fans, partners, and stakeholders that we are taking every measure to prevent any recurrence of such incidents. The MFA will enhance its regulatory frameworks and strengthen monitoring mechanisms to safeguard the fairness of our competitions,” he stated.
The MFA called on all fans, partners, and the broader football community to stand with us as we address this challenging chapter. Your continued support is vital as we work to restore trust and ensure that Mizoram football continues to be a beacon of fair play, passion, and unity. The MFA remains steadfast in our commitment to a clean and transparent sport, and together, we will build a stronger, more resilient football community.
