Opposition chief whip PT Sawkmie has expressed hope that the state government will scrap the letter of award (LoA) to M/s Broadcasting Engineering Consultants Corporation Limited (BECIL).

“Since the partners in the MDA government has come out openly to oppose the LoA to BECIL, hopefully the deal will be scrapped,” Sawkmie, who is also Mawlai legislator, said in a statement on Sunday.

The United Democratic Party (UDP), Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) and People’s Democratic Front (PDF) which are supporting the NPP-led government have opposed the LoA to BECIL for operation and maintenance of 56 33/11 KV sub-stations.

Sawkmie however said, “…I am sure all the three ministers who represent the (these parties) will speak the same voice in the cabinet.”

Stating that the LoA is also opposed by the NGOs and Congress legislators, the MLA said, “We are concerned because the local contractors are losing their contract work, local youth will not be employed and so much amount of money will be enjoyed by BECIL.”
