M’laya CM slams opp Congress for playing petty politics
SHILLONG: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Saturday slammed the opposition Congress for playing petty politics against the ruling National People’s Party (NPP).
The national chief of the NPP was speaking during his election campaigns to drum up support for the party’s candidate from Mawsynram Alvin Sawkmie ahead of the February 27-district council polls.
“The Congress is playing petty politics against the NPP because they have no other issue against the party. We as a party have been working for the interest of the people irrespective of their religious or cultural affiliation,” Sangma said.
Castigating the Congress MLA Himalaya Shangpliang for neglecting the interest of the people of Mawsynram, he said, “I am not chief minister of NPP, I am chief minister of Meghalaya and it is my responsibility to work for the interest of the people of the state. I fail to realise why the Mawsynram MLA never approached me to raise the concerns of the people.”
“Shangpliang is not MLA of Congress but MLA of Mawsynram constituency. He must respect each and every public of Mawsynram constituency. I am sorry to say that he does not deserve to be called a leader,” the chief minister said.
Assuring that the NPP will ensure development reaches to everyone, Sangma said the road of Shangpliang says no entry for you but we will start a new road and that new road is Alvin Sawkmie.
“He (Sawkmie) is the road will use to bring development to the people of Mawsynram through the Centre and state government, I can assure you that,” Sangma said.
