M’laya govt to come up with more anti-influx laws: Dohling
SHILLONG: Urban Affairs Minister Hamletson Dohling today said the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government would soon come up with more effective laws to prevent influx and illegal immigrant from entering into the state.
The former NGO leader-turned-politician was speaking at a public meeting organised by the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) to oppose the Citizenship Amendment Bill of the BJP-led NDA government at the centre, held in the city here on Wednesday.
“We are preparing to come up with more effective laws to protect the indigenous people of the state,” Dohling said.
The PDF MLA from Mylliem also informed that the government is also targeting to start the construction of the entry-exit points at Ri Bhoi District by April.
Stating that the Meghalaya government was the first to oppose the citizenship bill, Dohling said, “The Bill is a politics of the BJP and it is something which we cannot accept.” He also assured that the state government will take further steps to ensure that the bill is not allowed to become a law.
In his short speech, Meghalaya State Planning Board (MSPB) chairman Lambor Malngiang said the bill is a vote bank politics of the BJP, which is eager to convert the entire North East region into a “Hindu state”.
“The CAB is a taxi to ferry immigrants from Bangladesh to Meghalaya and North East region,” he said.
Malngiang further informed that the political parties of the North East region which met earlier in Guwahati will soon meet the President and Prime Minister for their intervention into the need to reconsider the decision to implement the citizenship bill.
