MLCU holds 14th Convocation
The 14th Convocation of the Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU) was held on Saturday online through university’s YouTube channel.
Meghalaya Governor and MLCU Visitor of the university, Satya Pal Malik presented the presidential address. Rev. Lyndan Syiem, pastor of the Mawroh Presbyterian Church delivered the convocation address.
711 graduating students including 7 PhDs, 381 master’s degrees, 278 bachelor’s degrees, 13 postgraduate diplomas, and 32 diplomas were awarded.
Congratulating the graduates of 2021, the Governor expressed happiness to see that MLCU ranked 7th among India’s best private education institutions in the category “Promising Future-Ready University” in the Education World India Higher Education ranking of 2021-22. The Governor applauded the University for initiating the Covid free scholarship for 100 students facing financial hardships. He remarked that it is a landmark in the history of education in Meghalaya as it brings hope for a better future for many.
He also commended the alumni of the university who have made their achievements in different careers and especially in the CM’s E-Champion Challenge 2020 and the PRIME Meghalaya-CM Entrepreneurial Challenge 2020-2021.
In his convocation address, Rev. Syiem advised graduates to put academic qualification into occupational utility and remunerative benefit. In his inspirational speech on rising above one’s circumstances, he addressed the major concern of our times is finding employment. The pastor narrated stories and provided examples to address the problem. He exhorted the graduates to help create jobs for others amidst this employment crisis. As a Covid survivor himself, the pastor encouraged the graduates to stay positive, look to God, keep fighting and utilize any opportunities coming their way.
