MLCU observed World Mental Health Day with focus on workplace wellbeing
Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU) hosted a special event on October 10 in observance of World Mental Health Day at Herman Hall, Divine Saviour Parish, Nongthymmai. The program, centered on the theme “It’s Time to Prioritize Mental Health in the Workplace,” was organized by the Department of Psychology & Wellbeing in collaboration with the Department of Education and the Centre for Counseling, focusing on the importance of mental wellbeing in professional settings.
Aliscacia M Swett, Deputy Registrar of MLCU, delivered the welcome address, emphasizing the need to create supportive workplace environments. A vibrant medley performance by B.Sc. students followed. Advocate Olivia A.I. Bang delivered the keynote address, highlighting the need for regular mental health check-ins in workplaces to ensure employee well-being.
The event included a discussion led by Vice-Chancellor Dr. T K Kharbamon and Clinical Psychologist Dr. George Kallingal, who shared insights on the relationship between spirituality, the human life cycle, and their impact on workplace mental health. Counselor Maryobiang Pyrtuh concluded with a session on managing stress in educational settings, offering practical strategies for reducing workplace stress.
Each session concluded with an interactive Q&A, allowing attendees to address mental health concerns in the workplace. The event wrapped up with a lighthearted dance session, encouraging attendees to unwind and promote happiness.
Overall, the program reinforced MLCU’s commitment to promoting mental well-being in professional environments, providing a platform for learning and reflection.
