Mobile internet services to be suspended across Assam on Oct 27 for recruitment exam
Mobile internet services in Assam will be suspended from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm on Sunday (October 27), to ensure a smooth recruitment examination process, as per an official notification issued on Friday.
The Board of Secondary Education (SEBA) will conduct written exams for Grade 4 positions in two shifts across 28 districts on that day. Similar internet suspensions were implemented on two occasions in September during recruitment exams conducted by the state-level recruitment commission.
To ensure a free, fair, and transparent examination process while maintaining public safety, the Home & Political Department of Assam has announced the suspension of mobile internet, mobile Wi-Fi, and mobile data services across the state on October 27, from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm.
This measure is taken under Section 5(2) of the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885, in conjunction with the Temporary Suspension of Telecom Services (Public Emergency or Public Safety) Rules, 2017.
The suspension, however, will not affect voice calls or broadband connections through fixed telephone lines. Any violation of this order will be subject to penalties under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and relevant provisions of the Indian Telegraph Act, 1885.
A total of 8,27,130 candidates are set to appear for the recruitment exam for HSLC-level posts in Assam, scheduled in the first shift from 9:00 am to 11:30 am across 1,484 centres. Additionally, 5,52,002 candidates have applied for the exam for Class VIII-level posts, which will take place in the second shift from 1:30 pm to 4:00 pm at 808 centres.
