Mothers’ day 2020 | Celebrating the Mother of all mothers

Mothers’ day celebration this year is unlike the other mothers’ day celebrated in the previous year or maybe even in the future. The pandemic and the subsequent lockdown enforced by respective governments has restricted the movement of people and even cautioned against visiting, the sick and the elderly. So, many of the Mother’s day wishes this year will be virtual, via online videos, social media or telephone call. Yet, irrespective of the medium to share the message which could be anything, it is the message that is important. The medium could be virtual or traditional, but what is important is not the colour of the paper that was wrapped around but what is inside the box.          

This year Mothers’ day celebration is not only about expressing our gratitude to the mothers’ around the world, for being the source or the giver of life because she alone can bring life to the world, but it is about something else. It is not only about the caring mother that we assume to be our only mother but it is also about the mother of the mothers.

Mothers’ day 2020 is when we have time to look beyond our biological mother whom we can see and touch, but at the mother which envelopes us around. This mothers’ day is not only about the mother who bring us to the world, take care of us and help make us what we are today, but it is about the mother which helps care and sustain all beings in the world.  This is not a mother of one family, one tribe or even a race but it is a mother of all beings because she took care of all that which lives in her bosom.

Unfortunately this mother is unable to speak but only communicate to us through signs that she demonstrate around from time to time and this time she decided to send the biggest of all the messages. We have ignored and ill-treated her for so long but this time the message it loud and clear and if we still disregard it again then we are all doomed. On this mothers’ day let us also bear in mind the important of Mother Earth. A mother unlike our biological mother is so close yet so far from our consciousness.  We ignore her bounteousness and walked carelessly on her soil and even disregard the fact that we live by her generosity.      

Mothers’ day 2020 help open our minded to see the truth that there is one human race, one creation and we are living in one Earth which is like a giant ball floating on the infinite space. Mothers’ day 2020 reminds us that one need to express one’s gratitude not only to the human mother but also to Mother Nature, because she is the foundation of life on earth. Let us therefore promise to always take care of our biological mother as well as our Mother Earth.
