MPCC urges Rahul Gandhi to reconsider his decision
SHILLONG: The Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) on Friday urged the Congress president Rahul Gandhi to reconsider his decision to resign from the post in the wake of the dismal performance of the party in the just concluded Lok Sabha polls.
The resolution was adopted at an emergent meeting held at the Congress Bhawan in Shillong here.
“It is the considered opinion of the MPCC that exit of Rahulji from the presidentship of the party at this juncture, when the party is faced with multiple challenges from divisive and disruptive forces, would lead to the total disintegration of the party,” MPCC chief Dr Celestine Lyngdoh said in the resolution submitted to Rahul Gandhi.
He said the MPCC on behalf of the rank and file of the party, also pledges unstinted loyalty and support to the leadership of Rahul Gandhi and expresses confidence that the party would see brighter days soon under his presidentship.
The MPCC also placed on record its deep appreciation and gratitude to the national president for his long and intensive campaign during the last Lok Sabha election, which even though did not translate into the expected lines but has been able to rejuvenate the party in a long way.
Stating that the defeat of the party in the hands of the BJP and its allies was not at all the defeat of the long cherished ideals and principles of the party, Lyngdoh however said “But in fact a defeat due to the unethical and unconstitutional strategies adopted by opponents.”
