MPYC files FIR against Republic TV’s Arnab Goswami
The Meghalaya Pradesh Youth Congress on Friday filed an FIR against Republic TV Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami for allegedly making defamatory attack on the All India Congress Committee (AICC) president Sonia Gandhi.
The FIR filed by MPYC leaders, Richard M Marak, Pangsang RN Sangma and Gamrik K Sangma with the Circle Inspector of Tura police station in West Garo Hills has also accused Goswami of attempting to communalise the mob lynching incident at Palghar in Maharashtra.
“He (Goswami) tried to light this communal fire despite public statements given by both the Chief Minister and the Home Minister of Maharashtra clarifying that the incident in Palghar had no communal angle to it. On top of it all, he also tried to bring the Christians and even Italy into the mix,” they said.
“The above statement can be classified as a hate speech and it is an attack on the Constitution of India and is an offence under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, the Information Technology Act, 2000 and guidelines of the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting,” they also stated in FIR.
