MRB launches micro ATMs in Meghalaya
The Meghalaya Rural Bank (MRB) on Tuesday launched the micro ATM machines to deliver basic banking services in the state.
MRB chairman, Dilip Kumar Guha said the MRB is rolling out the micro ATM machines to Bank Sakhis of the Meghalaya State Rural Livelihoods Society (MSRLS), who are also working as Business Correspondents (BCs) for the bank.
“This will give a quantum jump in the ability of both MRB and MSRLS in extending banking services over a wide geographical area. It will bring more customers to our fold enabling them to avail bank credit and do their daily transactions,” he said.
He said the micro ATM is a device that will be used by the BCs to deliver basic banking services adding the platform will enable BCs to conduct instant transactions on the move and it is SIM card enabled.
“The micro ATM platform will be connected to the MRB CBS system. This would enable a person to instantly deposit or withdraw funds, make remittances etc, without going to branch and has to deal with a particular BC only,” he said.
Guha further elaborated that the device will be based on a mobile phone connection and would be made available with every BC. BCs will act as bank for the customers and all they need to do is verify the authenticity of customer using customers’ UID.
“With this device in their hand Bank Sakhis will become women with the power to do the basic banking activities on the move,” he added.
The chief guest on the occasion was MSRLS CEO, Shantanu Sharma.
