MSOA & Sports Associations choose venues for Meghalaya Games in Jowai & Wahiajer
To gear up for the 6th Meghalaya Games 2025, slated to be hosted in Jowai and Wahiajer, a dedicated team of representatives from the Meghalaya State Olympic Association (MSOA) and various sports associations conducted a vital site selection visit on June 11.
This extensive assessment is a pivotal step in ensuring that all necessary facilities and infrastructure are meticulously prepared to host this prestigious event.
Led by MSOA Working President John F. Kharshiing, MSOA General Secretary Finely Pariat, Assistant Director of the Sports Department and District Sports Officer Khroobok Passah, the delegation included leaders from numerous sports associations apart from the boxing association.
During this site inspection and venue confirmation, the MSOA and associations visited several key locations. These included Kiang Nangbah Government College, designated for swimming events, Thomas Jones Synod College, Tpeppale, Jowai Presbyterian Higher Secondary School, Ladthadlaboh, Khliehtyrshi and Wahiajer Sports Complex.
John highlighted that 24 sports associations participated in the venue inspection, covering a wide range of sports: archery, athletics, arm wrestling, badminton, basketball, cycling, football, golf, gymnastics, judo, karate, swimming, shooting, softball, sports climbing & mountaineering, table tennis, tennis, taekwondo, volleyball, weightlifting, wrestling, wushu, Muay Thai and kho kho.
He said that the government, through the Sports Department, is actively preparing and ensuring the readiness of the venues. The visit confirmed the suitability of the fields, sports facilities, accommodations and other necessary arrangements for the games. John noted that Jowai and Wahiajer boast numerous sports venues, providing an optimistic outlook. This initiative aims to revive the district by encouraging youth participation in sports and fostering skilled athletes. This effort also serves as a preparation for the National Games 2026.
Finely commented on the abundance of halls and sports venues in Jowai and Wahiajer, easing the government’s investment in infrastructure and the provision of sports equipment.
He expressed gratitude to all the state associations for their proactive involvement in the venue selection process. The next step involves the government taking action to begin preparations for the Meghalaya Games and announcing the event dates.
District Sports Officer, Khroobok confirmed that the swimming events will be held at Kiang Nangbah Government College, while the shooting long-range events will take place at Tpeppale field.
With a few months remaining, the state government is set to commence construction and renovation efforts to ensure all facilities are ready in time for the games. This proactive approach aims to meet all requirements for hosting a successful Meghalaya Games 2025 in Jowai and Wahiajer.
