MTD decides not to allow NEHU VC to set foot in Mawlai
The Mawlai Town Dorbar (MTD), a conglomeration of 17 dorbar shnongs, on Saturday decided not to allow the incumbent vice chancellor of the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Prof PS Shukla to set foot in the jurisdiction of Mawlai area.
The decision was taken after a delegation of the MTD met and extended solidarity with the agitating students of NEHU, who are staging their indefinite hunger strike for the past 12 days, demanding the immediate removal of the VC and other officials of the university.
The MTD led by its president Herlambok War said that the decision to ban the entry of the VC in Mawai area is a mark of extending support to the indefinite fast protest, which is being spearheaded by the NEHUSU and KSU NEHU Unit.
It has also expressed concern about the health of the students and urged them to reconsider their decision to continue with the hunger protest by taking other course of action to intensify their agitation.
