Mukul dares MDA Govt to take legal action against those pointing fingers at them
Former Chief Minister and currently Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma on Saturday accused the National People’s Party-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government of acting as an “accused” in the alleged coal scam as well as other irregularities and alleged corruption.
“The people in authority and the government have been acting as an accused,” Sangma told reporters at the sidelines of a meeting which constituted the North Shillong Trinamool Congress Committee.
He said if there is no truth in the allegations of irregularities and corruption, the government should legally go hammer and tongs against those making the allegation and then take all measures at anything which comes as defamation.
Sangma however asked, “Have they (government) shown the guts to go after those people who are pointing fingers against them. That itself is something indicative of what is happening.”
The Leader of Opposition further pointed out that people from all walks of life are sending a message which is loud and clear that there must be a collective effort from all political parties to assure the people of the state that “Meghalaya should be free from corruption”.
Referring to the stories being carried left and right against the alleged involvement of the government particularly in facilitating the illegal coal trade in the state, Sangma said the government has to take cognizance and “denying to take cognizance of these instances of irregularities and instances of alleged corruptions that means they are acting as an accused.”
“That means by default they (government) are telling the people that they themselves are accused. That is why they want to defend it is simple, that is why I am saying it is palpable and visible and it is unfortunate,” he added.
Sangma further demanded the state government to immediately put an end to all irregularities and corruption in the state.
“It must stop, it must end as we want to ensure that the state is not subjected to that kind of disaster and that is the reason why we must say that corruption must end,” he stated.
Reminding the fact that corruption has destroyed many nations of the world, the former chief minister said, “We don’t want our state of Meghalaya to be destroyed by the level of corruption that is palpable and that is visible.”
