Mukul lashes out at NPP over protest in GH, says root cause is money & power
Leader of Opposition and former Chief Minister Mukul Sangma on Saturday accused the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) of being obsessed with money and power.
He was condemning the adamant attitude of the NPP leadership towards the growing demand to oust the incumbent Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) Rakesh A Sangma.
His statement also came in the wake of massive protests by the people of Garo Hills along with NGOs.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma was yet again greeted with black flags as protesters demanded the immediate removal of his brother-in-law Rakesh A Sangma from the CEM post.
The CM was at Chandmary, Tura where he inaugurated the state-of-the-art and the first of its kind, artificial turf football playground at a cost of Rs. 5.4 crores.
Commenting on the situation, Mukul, who is also AITC North Eastern State Committee In-charge, said that the situation could have been avoided.
“The situation that unfolded in Garo Hills following installation of CM @ConradSangma’s brother-in-law Rakesh A Sangma as CEM, GHADC could have been avoided but for the party leadership’s obsession with power & money – money is the root cause of all evil,” the Leader of Opposition tweeted.
