Mukul Sangma appointed as new LO, Ronnie Lyngdoh as opp chief whip in Assembly
Opposition TMC leader and former chief minister Mukul Sangma has been recognized as the new Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly. The lone opposition Congress legislator from Mylliem Ronnie V Lyngdoh was also recognized as the Opposition Chief Whip in the Assembly.
The decision of Assembly Speaker Thomas A Sangma was informed by the Assembly’s Commissioner & Secretary through a notification issued on Thursday.
This came a day after the opposition TMC had staked claim for the post of Leader of Opposition (LO) with the support of the lone Congress legislator.
This is the second time that Mukul has been appointed LO. The need to appoint a new LO was after the Congress became a solo performer following the recent merger of three Congress MLAs with the ruling NPP. The political development had left Ronnie V Lyngdoh with no option but to relinquish the post of the LO.
