Mukul Sangma boasted of developmental activities during his tenure as Meghalaya CM
Firing salvo at the NPP led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA), Trinamool Congress Legislature Party Leader & Leader of Opposition, Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, Dr. Mukul Sangma on Tuesday boasted of the various developmental activities and programmes undertaken by him during his tenure as Chief Minister of Meghalaya.
Addressing the Block Meeting held at Rongara Siju Assembly Constituency, South Garo Hills District., “During my tenure as the Chief Minister, I was highly successful in fulfilling ample schemes that benefitted the people. When the state fund wasn’t sufficient to help the people address their grievances, I brought the special central assistance. The policies and schemes that I introduced were meticulously planned for generations to come. Many schools have been established through the Asian Development Bank. Nevertheless, all have come to a drastic end due to the crippled NPP-led MDA government.”
Highlighting the stretch of developments on road and infrastructure, Dr. Mukul Sangma said, “I had signed an agreement with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for the construction of NH-62, NH-51 and Shillong-Dawki Road (NH-40). The Nongstoin road and the Shillong-Dawki road are the footprints of the developments that were introduced during my time.”
Slamming the Conrad-led MDA government, the Leader of the Opposition also questioned the whereabouts of state funds. He mentioned, “The district council is unable to provide salaries and hence employees are strained with hopelessness.
Amid assurances from the Chief Minister on financial assistance, this has become a long-standing issue. Where are the funds going?”
The latest data released by RBI has revealed that Meghalaya recorded the slowest Compounded Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 2 percent in FY 2021, making it the slowest growing smaller states in India.
While the investments and schemes introduced by Dr. Mukul Sangma once remained a life-saver to the people by improvising their standard of living, the ruling dispensation has indicated that they have higher priorities than serving the people of the state.
