Mukul term Congress’ support to MDA as betrayal
All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) leader and former chief minister Mukul Sangma on Saturday said the Congress’ decision to support the BJP backed NPP-led MDA government reflects that they are desperate to be in power.
Stating that it is a complete betrayal, Sangma said that the Congress has decided to be part of the government where the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is actively associated.
“It (decision) is completely contrary to what the Indian National Congress has always stood firm, it is a reflection of their desperation to be in power.”
This came a day after the five legislators of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) extended full support to the Conrad K Sangma-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government on various issues concerning the state which include the long pending demand for implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the state.
Sangma said that from the day one after the 2018 Assembly polls, there have been attempts by some of the Congress legislators to be part of the present government.
“It has been only how many days the 12 of us have merged with the AITC (on November 25), how many days we have been as a separate group and they (Congress) have not been in a position to reaffirm their commitment to the people in sync with what was promised in 2018,” he added.
The former chief minister further stated that the Congress in Meghalaya is in a complete disarray and are victims of confusion even as he appealed to all the remaining five legislators to also join the AITC.
“That is the reason why I have said that instead of remaining in Indian National Congress, if they have the resolve to serve the people and the state it is time for them to join Trinamool Congress,” he said.
He added that the AITC is the only platform where they can do justice to the responsibilities vested upon them.
