Mukul to soon meet AICC in Delhi for resolving issues within the party
Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma on Friday said he would soon seek the intervention of the Congress high command for resolving issues within the party.
The veteran political leader also maintained that it would be too premature to speculate about his leaving the Congress and joining other political parties.
“I will be travelling to Delhi on Sunday…there is a mechanism, we will try to resolve all issues,” Sangma told reporters following speculation that he along with 13 MLAs are set to quit the Congress to join other political parties.
“That particular presumption and assumption is too premature (about me along with other colleagues leaving the Congress). I have always maintained that I should not be a victim of pessimism,” he said.
On the speculation of joining All India Trinamool Congress (TMC), Sangma however said, “…you know you have to wait for the time, if it is coming from the horse’s mouth then you give credibility, it’s a question of giving weightage to news when it comes from the right source.”
Stating that there are grievances within the party, the former Chief Minister said some of them are already victims of those grievances while referring to one of the senior members leaving the Congress to join the NPP ahead of the bye-elections to the 3 Assembly seats.
“These are indications and these are just the tip of the iceberg. Therefore, we want to resolve them at the appropriate time meaning well ahead of the election,” he said adding “We cannot allow this kind of internal problems which are there which we would like to resolve within the four walls that’s why I’m not sharing with you and even if you would be asking what are those problems?, you will not get anything from me so this is how we approach to solve the party matters…I hope all those factors which require to ultimately arriving at finding a resolution or solution becomes possible then it will end within the four walls of the party…”
When asked, the Congress leader admitted that there have been attempts to influence the party MLAs by many political parties.
“We are trying to insulate our MLAs and we have been successfully capable of doing that unlike other states where members from various political parties are becoming victims of poaching. Here also unfortunately it is there but we have been able to insulate our colleagues and I think that is something which has been considered as the most difficult job for us,” he said.
Sangma further stated that the speculation about leaving the Congress has been there for so long since 2018.
“I believe you have been seeing many of our friends from media carrying similar story on the number 13 and I think that the story has always been doing the rounds but the fact is that we have been able to insulate our team from at least that kind of poaching which was resorted to, which is continuing and which will continue until we face the 2023 elections,” he said.
“Now you are seeing sudden shifting of people from the party when the elections are not notified, you are seeing that so until elections are face and until we really fight for the next election, we won’t know what are those ultimate fallout of anything that we don’t resolve doing as we prepare for the 2023 elections,” he said.
