NABJAC demands creation of a new C&RD Block at Lumshnong
The Narpuh Border Area Joint Action Committee (NBAJAC) on Wednesday demanded the Meghalaya Government to create a new Community & Rural Development Block at Lumshnong to bring administration closer to the people of Narpuh area in East Jaintia Hills District.
A delegation of the committee met Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and submitted a memorandum to him for utilizing his good office to materialize their bonafide demands.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, secretary of the NBAJAC Daiapherbha Lamare said that shifting of the block office to Wapung from Khliehriat, the people of the region are secluded and isolation further from the block office as villagers will have more difficulty in visiting and accessing the office for the various government schemes especially MNGREGS.

“The requirement for a new block at Lumshnong to cater to the people of the Narpuh area is in line with the principle of equity. Hence…(we) request the government under your capable leadership to hear the plight of the people of Narpuh area by creating a new block at Lumshnong,” he said.
He informed that the readiness of the Dorbar Shnong of Lumshnong to donate a huge plot of land along with a multi-storey RCC building for the C&RD Block as a gift is a big alleviate to the government treasury.
According to Lamare, the Chief Minister did not give any promise to the JAC, but he has made it clear that the state government would make an announcement in his budget speech in assembly on the creation of new Community and Rural Development Blocks in the state.
