Namdong Community Health Centre struggles without power supply
The Namdong PHC upgraded to a CHC in November 2022, is facing a significant challenge without access to electricity.
The CHC was inaugurated by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma before the State Assembly Election 2023, is situated under Nartiang Constituency, represented by Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar.
Despite serving a sizable population of 30-40 thousand across several villages with four sub-centres, the CHC has been unable to meet the needs of patients due to its lack of power supply.
The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Namdong Area has consistently raised concerns about the non-functional status of the PHC, which operates in darkness at night due to frequent power failure, particularly during rainy weather.
Juhhi Tariang, Secretary of the KSU Namdong Area Unit has criticized the health department for failing to provide power backup, causing inconvenience not only to patients but also to staff who struggle to deliver services under these conditions.
He urged the health department to address this issue and ensure uninterrupted healthcare services for the community.
