National Deworming Day launched in East Jaintia Hills
The District Medical & Health Officer, East Jaintia Hills District, launched the National Deworming Day observance on October 22 at Rymbai Government Secondary School.
The event was attended by Dr. D. Shylla, District Medical & Health Officer, Dr. S. Rymbai, Medical & Health Officer, Rymbai PHC, D. Kshiar, Health Educator, Rymbai PHC, along with other health officials, ASHAs, teachers, and students.
Dr. Shylla explained that National Deworming Day aims to treat intestinal worm infections in children aged 1-19 years, reducing anaemia and improving nutrition. He highlighted how worms enter the body and stressed the effectiveness of antiparasitic medicines. He also advised students to drink boiled water and eat healthy food to prevent infections.
Dr. S. Rymbai emphasized the importance of cleanliness, hygienic food, and handwashing to prevent worm infections. Health Educator D. Kshiar demonstrated the seven steps of handwashing.
Other speakers included A. Dhar, DPM, NHM, D. Passah, RBSK Manager, and S.L. Dkhar, Assistant Teacher, Rymbai Government Secondary School.
