National Deworming Day observed in East Jaintia Hills
The National Deworming Day (NDD), 2023 was observed in Khliehriat Higher Secondary School, East Jaintia Hills District on Monday.
Organized by the Office of the District Medical and Health Officer, East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat with the objective of deworming all school children between the ages of 1 to 19 years through the platform of Schools and Anganwadi Centres.
Dr NP Suchiang, DIO, I/C East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat in her speech informed the students present in the programme that the National Deworming Day (NDD) was launched by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India in the year 2015 and it is organized twice a year in the month of April and October to ensure that each and every child in India is worm free. She further explained how intestinal parasitic worms enter the human body, the signs, and symptoms, and also stressed on the importance of maintaining good personal hygiene to fight and prevent intestinal worm infection.
“Albendazole is a very safe drug for deworming that can be crushed, chewed, and swallowed with a glass of water”, she said and advised the school children between ages 1 to 19 years to take the tablet. The DIO, I/C East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat also informed that the National Deworming Day (NDD) will be followed by a mob- up day on the April 21 with the intent of deworming children, who missed the dose on April 17.
Others who also spoke were Ariston Dhar, District Programme Manager, NHM, East Jaintia Hills District, and Dr I Dkhar, RBSK, AYUSH Medical Officer.
