National Education Policy will pave way for autonomy of colleges
NEHU Department of Education Professor SM Sungoh said the National Education Policy (NEP) aim to reform the education system in the country and bring about new structure in higher education sector where all colleges/Institution will gradually move towards full autonomy.
Sungoh deliberated on the topic “Four Years Structure Undergraduate Programme at the Higher Level” while speaking as resource person in the District level Seminar on “National Education Policy 2020″. The seminar was organised by the Department of Education, Thomas Jones Synod College Jowai at the College Hall on Tuesday.
Prof. Sungoh informed the National Education Policy 2020 with a focus on large, well-resourced and vibrant multidisciplinary institutions.
She further said that teachers should be well equipped to improve the education system. “It is a very ambitious policy, especially for the quality of education which intend to make a vibrant type of education where students benefit studying in India,” she added.
Prof. Sungoh said that the Education Policy will bring high quality education, thereby transforming Indian education and a vibrant society in the world.
“The main aim of NEP is respect towards fundamental rights duly to constitutional values,” Sungoh said.
She further also said that Higher Education in India focuses on the major principles NEP 2020 that is to recognizing, identifying and strengthening the unique capabilities of each students.
She also said that policy also promotes students’ holistic development in both academic and non-academic spheres.
Prof. Sungoh said that the students have to choose their learning trajectories and programs, and thereby choose their paths as their talent and interest.
She said as per the Policy there will be no separation between arts and sciences, curricular activities and extracurricular activities, vocational and academic streams among others to eliminate harmful hierarchies and silos in the areas of learning.
Prof. Sungoh said the NEP offers the students a much broader, multidisciplinary foundation.
She said that holistic education across sciences, social sciences, arts, humanities and sports ensures the unity and integrity of all knowledge.
She highlighted that the National Educational Policy in higher education will promote in Multilingualism, Life Skills and encourage innovation and out of the box ideas.
The seminar was inaugurated by the Executive Member of Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council, P Dkhar, while Dr I Dkhar chaired the inaugural function. Others who spoke included College Principal Dr DG Lyngdoh and UG Lamare proposed a vote of thanks.
The resource persons included Rev Brother AL Dkhar Principal of St. Anthony’s College who touched on “National Education Policy 2020: Implementation and Challenges for Teachers”.
