National Newborn Week 2021 and SAANS launched in Khliehriat
The National Newborn Week 2021 and Social Awareness and Action to Neutralize Pneumonia Successfully (SAANS) was launched at the MCH Building, Khliehriat CHC by Dr D Shylla, District Medical & Health Officer, East Jaintia Hills District in the presence of Dr W Bamon, SDM&HO, East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat and Dr. (Mrs.) NP Suchiang, District Immunization Officer, In-charge East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat on Monday.
The theme National Newborn Week of this year is “Safety, Quality and Nurturing care – Birth Right of Every New Born”.
The week, which will conclude on November 21, aim to reduce infant deaths and maternal deaths.
Addressing the gathering, the DM&HO stressed the importance of quality care for pregnant women and infants in the district. “The objective of the programme is to reduce infant deaths and maternal deaths,” he said.
The Medical Officers and paramedical staff were instructed to take the initiative of fulfilling the objectives of the programme right up to the ASHA level. The ASHAs will be conducting home visits under Home-Based Newborn Care (HBNC) programme, he added.
Dr. (Mrs.) N. P. Suchiang, DIO urges to follow up high-risk pregnant women for saving the lives of mothers and neonates in the district.
Other Medical Officers who were also present included Dr. Henry RM Lamare, M&HO (Pediatrics), 100-bedded Hospital Khliehriat and Dr. D. Nongpluh, M&HO (Medicine), 100-bedded Hospital Khliehriat who were the resource persons on NNW 2021 and World Diabetes Day 2021 respectively, which was observed during the ceremony
