National People’s Party Women’s Wing distributed warm clothes to A.W. Thomas Girls’ Home
As a gesture of goodwill, members of the Women’s Wing of the National People’s Party (NPP) on Monday visited A.W. Thomas Girls’ Home in Jaiaw Lumsyntiew, Shillong and distributed warm clothes to 45 children between the ages of 6 and 18.
The programme was attended by Jubinia Lymba, House Mother of the Girls’ Home, Camilia L Ryntathiang, Probationary Officer, AW Thomas Girls’ Home, P. Nongpluh, State Working President NPP Women’s Wing, M. Basaiawmoit, State Secretary, NPP Women’s Wing and R Kurbah, State Secretary, NPP Women’s Wing in the presence of Nickey Nongkhlaw, National Working President NPP Youth Front.
M. Basaiawmoit extended her heartiest greetings on the occasion of Christmas and New Year and said, ‘’The Girls’ Home housed with 45 siblings are blessed to live together under one roof and have each other.”
She also spoke about the strength and fortitude of the administration wing of the Home and praised them for their ability to withstand all the difficulties that have come in their way, especially with the Covid-19 pandemic.
C. Ryntathiang, Probationary Officer of the Girls’ Home said, “The Home is for 60 children and focuses on the best interests of the child. The home also has many classes in terms of sewing, baking, music and cooking. The children get the opportunity to showcase their work in various fields under the Social Welfare Department. We are all happy to have the NPP Women’s Wing visit us for the first time.”
At the time of the festivities amid the pandemic, this human act of kindness was a breath of fresh air to warm the hearts of the little ones during the chilling winter.
We may note that the girls and staff members at the AWT Girls’ Home contracted COVID-19 in November 2020. The girls have had their fair of emotional challenges yet were able to overcome them.
For the NPP Women’s Wing, it was a purposeful event as they interacted and spent their time with the children.
