National Space Day: 3-day multimedia exhibition underway at National Science Centre
A three-day multimedia exhibition, organised by the Central Bureau of Communication, Guwahati under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting was inaugurated at the National Science Centre in Guwahati to celebrate the first National Space Day on Friday.
Assam Minister for Science, Technology & Climate Change, Keshab Mahanta inaugurated the exhibition themed “Touching Lives while Touching the Moon: India’s Space Saga,” which emphasizes the profound impact of space exploration on society and technology.
Speaking at the inaugural programme, Mahanta said, “We celebrate this day with immense pride. What our nation has achieved in the Space Science Technology, is now regarded as exemplary and outstanding among all the nations of the world. For this, we are indebted to the hard work and dedication of our scientists at the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).”
“It is a great pleasure to be present on this remarkable occasion of the first National Space Day dedicated to honour our nation’s achievements in space exploration.On this day, we commemorate the historic success of the Chandrayaan and the incredible feat for landing Vikram lander on the moon. Last year on this day of August 23rd, India became the 4th country to land on the moon and first to reach the southern polar region of the moon,” Mahanta also said.
The Minister extended his gratitude to ISRO and the scientists who have been contributing to the nation’s achievements in the space sector with their continued hard work and brilliance.
He also lauded the CBC, Guwahati for organising an interactive Multimedia Exhibition in the city, which will further enable the students to gain abundant knowledge about space.
While speaking at the inaugural programme, former Director, of North Eastern Space Application Centre (a Unit of ISRO), Dr Kumud Chandra Bhattacharya said, “It is a rare achievement that only four nations including India has been able to land on the moon. We are all celebrating this day as urged by the Prime Minister.I am overwhelmed to see the enthusiasm and excitement of the students assembled here at the exhibition. We have worked tirelessly to contribute to the journey in space technology and today we are getting the results of it. Although I am now retired, on behalf of ISRO, I want to say that as scientists of this nation, we will continue working with dedication in the field of space science.”
Director General, Northeast Zone, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, K Satish Nambudiripad also urged the students interested in science and space to visit the Multimedia Exhibition as it is aimed at enhancing their learning experiences.
