NEC sanctions 2 projects at Rs 142 Cr: Conrad
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Thursday informed that the North Eastern Council (NEC) has sanctioned two projects at Rs 142 crore during the year 2019-20.
These include upgradation of 9th Mile (on East West Corridor in Assam) to Umsen via Killing-Pilangkata Road (29.872 km) at Rs 84.01 crore and Mukroh Umspar linking Jrikyndeng Road (15.517km) at Rs 58.01 crore, Sangma said while replying during the question hour in the Assembly.
Both the projects have been sanctioned as inter-state roads under the North East Road Sector Development Scheme (NERSDS).
The chief minister further informed that a total amount of Rs 44 crore have been released by the NEC so far.
He said that the final work order for upgradation of 9th Mile to Umsen via Killing-Pilangkata road was issued on February 21 and work is yet to be started. The road will be implemented by the state PWD.
On the other hand, Sangma said that the physical progress of the Mukroh Umpsar linking Jrikyndeng road (implemented by CPWD) is 8 per cent. Alignment and subgrade and shoulder preparations are in progress.
Raising supplementary query, Ampati MLA Miani D Shira wanted to know whether there were any other projects proposed to the NEC but were not sanction.
To this, Sangma said that only 3 of 23 projects were submitted under NERSDS.
He said the NEC has also requested the government to put on hold (some) projects till guidelines are finalised.
Subsequent to the finalisation of the guidelines in 2018, Sangma said 23 projects were sanctioned at Rs 182 crore.
He said that the state level empowered committee had recommended 21 projects and of these, NEC has allowed the state government to go ahead for implementation of 14 projects.
