NEHU VC appoints Pro VCs for Shillong and Tura campus
Under pressure, vice chancellor of the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Prof PS Shukla on Wednesday appointed pro-vice chancellors for Shillong and Tura campuses.
His decision came in the wake of the ongoing indefinite hunger strike protest led by the North Eastern Hill University Students’ Union (NEHUSU) backed by the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU – NEHU Unit) for the past nine days, demanding his immediate removal for failing to terminate the registrar and deputy registrar.
The order issued by the Assistant Registrar (Planning) i/c informed that Prof SM Sungoh, Department of Education has been appointed as pro vice chancellor of the university’s Shillong campus and Prof Fameline K Marak, Department of Garo as pro vice chancellor of Tura campus with effect from November 13, subject to the approval of the executive council.
“The term of the office and other terms and conditions of the above appointment of Pro-Vice Chancellor shall be as per the Act and Statutes of the University as amended from time to time,” the order stated.
