NEHUSU to stage protest march on Oct 26
The North Eastern Hill University Students’ Union (NEHUSU) will stage a protest march on Thursday demanding the University authority to address the various issues.
NEHUSU president Ready First June Nongbsap said the Union has requested all students, communities and organizations within the university to join hands in this protest and to boycott classes.
“Together, we can bring about the improvements our university deserves. We invite you to stand in unity and raise your voice against critical issues that demand immediate attention. Our protest march from the central library to the administrative block is a collective call for a change,” he said.
Highlighting the issues, Nongbsap said, “In regards to the hostel issues, we demand improvements in food quality, Wifi access and infrastructure for a safer and more comfortable environment for all residents.”
He said the union has demanded for establishment of a dedicated library for the School of Technology (SOT) is long overdue and crucial to enhance the academic resources available to our SOT students adding that there is an urgent need for updated computer equipment in our laboratories to facilitate effective learning and research.
“We seek transparency and fairness in our marking system, ensuring that every student is assessed objectively and equitably,” he said.
Regarding the appointment of Rohit Prasad, the president said, “We are concerned about the appointment of Rohit Prasad to the office of the vice chancellor. The lack of a transparent recruitment process and terms and conditions for his employment is an issue that demands immediate attention.”
