New initiatives launched to enhance Science and Mathematics Education in Meghalaya

Introducing a wave of innovative educational initiatives, on February 28, Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma on February 28, unveiled a series of programs aimed at enriching learning experiences. Among these initiatives are Knight’s Gambit: A New Era of Chess Education, Meghalaya STAR 30: Guiding Aspirations for NEET/JEE exams, PULSE (Promoting Understanding and Learning in Science Education), and Tech Tutor Meghalaya: Exploring Science and Mathematics in Virtual Classroom.
The State Council of Science Technology and Environment (SCSTE) in Meghalaya, in collaboration with the Shillong Science Centre and the Science Department of Shillong College, marked National Science Day 2024 at the State Convention Centre in Shillong, focusing on ‘Indigenous Technologies for Viksit Bharat.’ The event saw the presence of Rakkam A Sangma, Education Minister, as Chief Guest, Sampath Kumar, Principal Secretary & Developmental Commissioner, as Guest of Honour, alongside Gunanka DB, Joint Secretary, Planning Department & Member Secretary, SCSTE, Meghalaya, and other dignitaries.
Addressing the gathering, Rakkam A Sangma applauded the enthusiasm of educators and students towards the advancement of knowledge in science and technology. He emphasized the pivotal role of government initiatives and contributions from Indian Scientists in inspiring students and propelling technological advancements.
Stressing the importance of staying abreast of the latest technologies and maintaining global standards, he urged students to apply scientific concepts in their daily lives for more impactful learning experiences. Sangma advocated for supporting initiatives that make learning enjoyable and meaningful, particularly in science and mathematics, to foster future innovators and problem solvers.
He encouraged students to pursue their interests in science and mathematics with dedication, emphasizing their potential contribution to societal advancement. Additionally, Sangma reiterated the government’s commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at enhancing science and technology education.
Meritorious students who scored highest marks in Science Technology and Mathematics in the Secondary and Higher Secondary MBOSE Examinations 2022-2023 were also felicitated by the Chief Guest.

Needs Government initiative to frame rules for the service conditions of teachers particularly about salaries.
Needs change in question pattern in Board Examination.
Needs appointment of subject experts to prepare student friendly study materials and online audio/ video teaching lessons.
