New Soil and Water Conservation Beat Office inaugurated in Laskein Village
A new Soil and Water Conservation Beat office was inaugurated on June 21 at Laskein village, aiming to bolster local conservation efforts across 47 villages under Elaka Raliang.
The Minister of Soil and Water Conservation, Marcuise N. Marak, unveiled the Laskein Soil & Water Conservation Beat Office under Laskein C&RDBlock, West Jaintia Hills, in the presence of Local MLA Nujorki Sungoh, Director of the Soil & Water Conservation Department Ibashisha Rynjah, and Divisional Soil and Water Conservation Officer Jowai Territorial Division Taiwanyoo War.
The plot of land measuring 106,430 square feet was generously donated by the Laskein Dorbar Shnong for the construction of the Soil Beat office.
Minister Marcuise N. Marak, while inaugurating the Beat office, stated that its presence would greatly benefit the residents of these 47 villages, eliminating the need for them to travel for services. He added that the office would assist the community in conserving soil and water resources effectively by providing essential resources and technical assistance. It will serve as a local hub for the dissemination of information and the implementation of developmental schemes by the Soil and Water Conservation office. This initiative will also bring essential facilities closer to the community, reducing the inconvenience of traveling to the Shangpung Range office for such needs. The Minister thanked the Dorbar Shnong Laskein for their generous land donation, which will benefit all.
To mark the occasion, the Minister, along with the Local MLA, planted tree saplings.
Additional Deputy Commissioner, West Jaintia Hills, MB Tongper, officials from the Soil & Water Conservation office, Village Headman Pynbeitlang Lyngdoh, Dolloi Elaka Raliang Chawas Lyngdoh, and other dignitaries attended the event.
