Newly elected JHADC & KHADC members to take oath tomorrow, elections to Chairmen & CEMs on Feb 28
The newly elected members of the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) and Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) will take their oath of office tomorrow, Feb 27, in separate ceremonies in Jowai and Shillong, as per a notification issued by the Meghalaya District Council Affairs Department.
The notification stated that the oath-taking will be administered by the Deputy Commissioners of West Jaintia Hills and East Khasi Hills, in accordance with the Assam & Meghalaya Autonomous Districts (Constitution of District Councils) Rules, 1951.
Following the swearing-in, the councils will convene on Feb 28 for the election of their respective Chairmen at 11 AM, followed by the election of the Chief Executive Members (CEMs) at 2 PM.
In JHADC, the National People’s Party (NPP) won 13 seats, later increasing to 14, and secured support from the United Democratic Party (3 seats) and an Independent MDC, taking its total strength to 18 MDCs.

In KHADC, Voice of the People Party (VPP) won 17 out of 29 seats, followed by United Democratic Party (UDP) with 5 seats, NPP with 4 seats, 2 Independents, and 1 Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) seat.
