NFR clears 103 unauthorized railway quarters in major eviction drive
In a significant crackdown on unauthorized occupancy, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) conducted an eviction drive at railway colonies in New Guwahati, clearing 68 illegal quarters and bringing the total number of evicted quarters to 103.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Chandmari, ensuring a lawful and peaceful process. Four individuals were arrested for unlawfully re-entering previously vacated railway quarters. Before the eviction, ACP Chandmari briefed all personnel to ensure systematic and coordinated execution of the drive.
A team comprising 20 railway officials and 24 local police officers, along with personnel from the Railway Protection Force (RPF), worked in coordination to ensure the smooth progress of the eviction.
In a separate operation at Maligaon and Pandu areas of Lumding division, 10 more unauthorized railway quarters were vacated without any resistance.
NFR regularly conducts surveys to identify encroachments and takes necessary action to remove them. Unauthorized occupations not only obstruct train operations and infrastructure development but also pose safety hazards by hindering track maintenance. Additionally, these encroachments often become hubs for criminal activities and drug abuse, raising security concerns.
Reaffirming its commitment to safe and efficient railway operations, NFR has urged all individuals to adhere to legal regulations and vacate unauthorized premises. The railway administration remains steadfast in its mission to prevent encroachments and safeguard railway property for seamless infrastructure development.
