NGOs demand govt to speed up anti-influx entry-exit points
SHILLONG: Leaders of four NGOs today demanded the state government to speed up the setting up of the entry-exit points for checking influx and illegal immigration, in all the locations identified under the first phase.
The NGOs including the KSU, FKJGP, HNYF and RBYF, have also decided to soon meet the chief minister Conrad K Sangma to seek clarification on the delay of the government to set up these entry-exit points.
According to them, land acquisition process have already completed in locations like Athiabari, Khanduli and Ratacherra, which falls under the first phase of the project.
The decision was taken after the delegation of the four NGOs met the PWD (Building) Minister Comingone Ymbon here on Monday, to seek his intervention on the slow progress of work with regards to the setting up of the entry point at Umling in Ri Bhoi District.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, KSU chief Lambok Starwell Marngar said the minister informed the delegation that the direction so far from the state government is to set up the entry point at Umling but not for the other locations.
“We are concern about this delay by the government since there are locations under the first phase which should have been given utmost importance,” he said while adding, “In view of this, we have decided to soon take up the matter with the chief minister with a demand to speed up the process at the earliest for the other locations as well.”
