NGOs demand govt to speed up setting of entry-exit points
SHILLONG: A delegation of four NGOs today demanded the state government to speed up the process of setting up the entry-exit points at Ri Bhoi District to prevent entry of influx and illegal immigration into the state.
The demand was made before the deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong during a meeting held here on Monday.
The four social organisations include the Khasi Students Union (KSU), Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP), Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) and Ri Bhoi Youth Federation (RBYF).
After the meeting, KSU President Lambokstarwell Marngar said, “We have urged him (Tynsong) to intervene into the matter by ensuring the setting up of the entry-exit pointn at Ri Bhoi District is speed up.”
Marngar said this was following the decision announced by the state government to set up the entry point at Umling.
Asked, he said the deputy chief minister has assured the delegation that he would look into the matter.
It may be mentioned here that the state government has approved 14 entry-exit points located in the different parts of the state to be constructed under first phase.
