NGOs demand MDA Govt to speed up implementation of MRSSA
Anti-influx groups have demanded the Conrad K Sangma-led MDA government to immediately implement the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act (MRSSA) for checking influx and illegal immigration into the state.
The groups have also asked the government to fulfill the pending issues including seeking the Centre’s approval for implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP), relocating the Sweeper’s Colony from Them Iew Mawlong.
“The government, the chief minister and the cabinet should take the responsibility of fulfilling the long pending aspirations of the people to avoid agitations in the state,” the four NGOs – KSU, FKJGP, HNYF and RBYF, said in a statement issued here on Sunday.
They said the government should ensure implementation of the MRSSA as promised by inaugurating the entry-exit point at Umling, Ri Bhoi district and to notify the District Task Force Committee in order to regulate the entry of outsiders into the state.
“With regards to ILP, the government should come out clear on the stand of the government of India on whether it will give ILP to Meghalaya or not. Twice we have met the union home minister Amit Shah but he refused to speak on the issue keeping the people of the state in the dark,” the NGOs said.
The NGOs also demand the state government to start relocating the Sweeper’s Colony from Them Iew Mawlong in the interest of the people of the state.
