NGT reminds MSPCB to recover environmental compensation of Rs. 5.05 crore from illegal coke factories
Reminding the Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board (MSPCB) to recover the environmental compensation of Rs. 5, 05, 20,000 (Five Crore Five Lakhs Twenty Thousands) from the illegal coke factories in areas within the jurisdiction of the Elaka Sutnga under East Jaintia Hills District according to procedure established by law, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) Eastern Zone Bench, Kolkata on Friday directed and undertake continuous monitoring of Coke Plants to check whether environmental norms are violated and if so, take action in accordance with law.
According to the judgment pronounced by the NGT, the State of Meghalaya will take appropriate action to frame an Action Plan regarding the offending Coke Oven Units established prior to 23.12.2020 to make them compliant of the siting norms laid down in the Notification dated 23.12.2020.
“Such Action Plan and its implementation shall be carried out within a period of four months,” said the NGT in the trial of Pynbait Sutnga versus Government of Meghalaya, Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board and others.
The M/s Sauryansi Coke will have to pay Environmental Compensation of Rs.25, 90, 000/- (Rupees Twenty-Five Lakhs Ninety Thousand only) while M/s Safari Coke is concerned is penalize for Rs.3, 70, 000/- (Rupees Three Lakhs Seventy Thousand only).
M/s SD Coke Industries is penalize for Rs.30, 70, 000/- (Rupees Thirty Lakhs Seventy Thousand only) while M/s Royale Born Associate Coke will have to pay an amount of Rs.29,90,000/- (Rupees Twenty-nine Lakhs Ninety Thousand only) for environmental compensation.
M/s R.S Petro will have to pay Environmental Compensation of Rs.29, 90, 000/- (Rupees Twenty-nine Lakhs Ninety Thousand only) whereas M/s Presidium Breez, M/s Umthe Carbon, M/s Hynniewtrep Fuels, M/s S.S Coke, M/s Shree Jii Carbon and M/s MM Minerals are fine for a petty amount of Rs. 10, 000/- (Rupees Ten Thousand only) each as damages caused to the environment.
M/s Meghalaya Minerals is fine for Rs.51,70,000/- (Rupees Fifty-one Lakhs Seventy Thousand only) while M/s Meghalaya Coke (Chimney-II), M/s Kamakhya Carbide Pvt. Ltd, M/s SK Coke Industry and M/s SM Coke will have to pay a penalty of Rs.8,20,000/- (Rupees Eight Lakhs Twenty Thousand only) each.
M/s Megha Coke and M/s Malang Coke will have to pay environmental Compensation of Rs.29, 90,000/- each while M/s Magic Coke is fined for Rs.19, 90, 000/- (Rupees Nineteen Lakhs Ninety Thousand only).
M/s JMK Coke Industries Pvt. Ltd. is penalized for Rs.23,50,000/- (Rupees Twenty-three Lakhs Fifty Thousand only) and M/s Jaintia Coke Industries (Chimney-II) is fined for Rs.30,70,000/- (Rupees Thirty Lakhs Seventy Thousand only) while M/s HMP Coke will compensate an amount of Rs.25,90,000/- (Rupees Twenty-Five Lakhs Ninety Thousand only) as environmental compensation.
M/s Halari Coke is penalize for Rs.4, 10, 000/- (Rupees Four Lakhs Ten Thousand only) while M/s East Jaintia Coke will pay a fine of Rs.30, 70, 000/- (Rupees Thirty Lakhs Seventy Thousand only) and
M/s Druk Fuels Limited is penalize for Rs.30, 00, 000/- (Rupees Thirty Lakhs only).
M/s DK Coke and M/s SSS Coke Industries will have to pay an amount of Rs.29,90,000/- (Rupees Twenty-nine Lakhs Ninety Thousand only) as environment compensation while M/s Barbarik Coke Industry will have to compensate Rs.8,20,000/- (Rupees Eight Lakhs Twenty Thousand only) and M/s Vivan Associate and M/s Sutnga Fuels is fine for Rs.3,70,000/- (Rupees Three Lakhs Seventy Thousand only).
