NHAI under Fire: KSU’s NH-6 protest demands reduced tolls and better quality
Following the creative protest to cultivate paddy and fishing in the dilapidated stretch of National Highway 6, the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) East Jaintia Hills District Unit has stopped all vehicles from plying along the NH-6 on Monday.
President of KSU EJH unit Streamly N Suchen has appealed for cooperation from the drivers not to ply along the NH from September 25 from 7 pm till 5 am on Tuesday. The agitation will last for one week.
This is the second time that the KSU has protested following the government and National Highways Authority of India’s (NHAI) apathy towards their appeal to repair the road.
The protest started with some protestors lying down on the road and some sitting, the protest saw the support of the residents of the district.
In a lighthearted twist, protesters engaged in “rice planting”, “fishing” and other sorts of humorous protest.
School children also carried placards and participated in the protest. The placard read “Highway Roberry! NHAI, Reduce Tolls, Increase Quality.”
