Hundreds of residents of various villages under Elaka Narpuh and members of the Khasi Students Union (KSU) Narpuh Circle staged their one day long sit in demonstration at the Toll Plaza of NHAI along National Highway -6 in Lumshnong village, East Jaintia Hills District on Tuesday.
The agitation has led to huge traffic jams as the National Highway connects Mizoram, Tripura and parts of Assam.
The agitation was after the end of seven day deadline to the Meghalaya Government and NHAI for immediate repair and restoration of the dilapidated highway from Mynkre to Malidor National Highway 6 in East Jaintia Hills District.
The local residents and KSU members displayed placards and banners condemning the failure of the NHAI and Meghalaya Govt to provide them with good roads. One of the banners called for good roads instead of railway services.
