    Sleuths of Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police arrested the Indian head of ISIS, Farooqi alias Harish Ajmal Farukhi along with one of his aides from the Dhubri sector of the Indo-Bangladesh border in Dhubri district in the wee hours of Wednesday.

    Haris Farooqi alias Harish Ajmal Farukhi, Farooqi @ Harish Ajmal Farukhi, is the son of Ajmal Farooqi. He hails from Chakrata, Dehradun. He is the Farooqi @ Harish Ajmal Farukhi. 

    His associate has been identified as Anurag Singh alias Rehan son of Manbir Singh of Diwana, Panipat got converted to Islam and his wife is a Bangladeshi national.

    “Based on information from sister agencies that two top rung leaders of ISIS in India who were camping in a neighbouring country would cross over to India at the Dhubri sector to carry out sabotage activities, an STF team under IGP Parthasarathi Mahanta, additional SP Kalyan Kumar Pathak was deputed to locate and apprehend the accused persons who are also wanted accused of NIA,” an Assam Police spokesperson said here.

    “Since the input was credible, a manhunt was launched in the international border area to nab the culprits. At around 4.15 am of Wednesday, the accused persons were detected at the Dharmasala area of Dhubri after they had crossed the international border.

    Both of them were apprehended and brought to STF office in Guwahati,” he said.

    “Both of them are highly indoctrinated and motivated leaders/ members of ISIS in India. They had furthered the cause of ISIS in India through conspiracies to carry out recruitment, terror funding and terror acts using IEDs at several places across India,” he further said.

    Several cases are pending against them at NIA, Delhi, ATS, Lucknow etc.

    “STF, Assam will hand over the accused to NIA for taking up further legal actions against these fugitives,” he added.
