NIFJ concerns on termination of journalists by ST

Northeast India Federation of Journalists (NIFJ) expresses grave concern over the sacking of three senior journalists of The Shillong Times ( ST) by its management. The three senior journalists were summarily sacked without any notice and enquiry as required under labour laws.

The reason for the sacking ‘Covid-generated reasons’ as stated in the termination letter, is unacceptable under laws governing services of journalists, said a statement issued by NIFJ Secretary General Bedabrata Lahkar.

NIFJ strongly demands upon The Shillong Times management to immediately withdraw the illegal terminations. It further urges upon the Meghalaya Government to take prompt actions against the ST management for their illegal actions and violations of the labour laws, the statement added.
