Night curfew imposed in Eastern West Khasi Hills

In view of the violence and arson committed by an unlawful and unruly mob by torching 5 (Five) government vehicles and one private vehicle and pelting of stones and damaging the office building of the Deputy Commissioner, Eastern West Khasi Hills District, Mairang on 2nd March 2023 and in order to ensure peace and security of the general public and safeguarding public properties, the District Magistrate, Eastern West Khasi Hills District, Mairang issued an order under Section 144 CrPC, promulgated Night Curfew from 6: 00 PM to 6: 00 AM daily.

The order prohibited assembly of more than  5 persons in all the government office complexes located at Mawsawa locality, Sangshong village, Umwiehsup locality and Mairang Mission village w.e.f. 3^rd March 2023 until further orders.

The order was necessitated as it has been made to appear to the District Magistrate, Eastern West Khasi Hills District, Mairang that the said violence and arson was carried out by members of certain organized groups and associations to achieve their objectives and it is apprehended that such groups and association might still continue carrying out such unlawful assembly and acts of violence and arson to further their interest.
