NIPER Guwahati retains 12th spot in NIRF ranking under pharmacy category
National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) Guwahati has retained the 12th position in the National Institutional Rankings Framework (NIRF) under the pharmacy category this year.
Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan released the 9th edition of NIRF Rankings results on Monday.
Elated with the achievement, NIPER Guwahati director Dr USN Murty said, “Retaining our position in the NIRF rankings is a testament to the unwavering dedication and relentless efforts of the entire NIPER Guwahati community, including faculty, students, staff, our alumni as well as all our stakeholders.”

It is a testament that we are on the right path, and we look forward to improving further and being a leader in the Pharmaceutical research and education sector not in just Northeast India but in the country as well.” Dr. Murty also congratulated the faculty, staff, students and other stakeholders of the institute,” Murty said.
This year in the NIRF ranking, NIPER Guwahati has scored 87.08 out of 100 under the ranking parameter Teaching, Learning and Resources (TLR) which depicts faculty-student ratio, faculty qualifications and experience, Library and laboratory facilities as well as sports and extra-curricular facilities. Under the ranking parameter Graduation Outcome (GO), the institute has scored 82.29 out of 100 depicting performances in university examinations, student placements and higher studies, the average salary of the graduates placed in various industries and organizations and the entrepreneurial exploits by the graduates of the institute.
At present, the NIPER Guwahatienrols students in eight academic departments viz. Pharmacology & Toxicology, Biotechnology, Pharmacy Practice, Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Analysis, Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Technology (Formulations), and Medical Devices. It offers Masters’ and PhD degrees for the students who are admitted into the institute through NIPER Joint Entrance Examinations that is held annually. NIPER Guwahati also has nine national centres sponsored by various ministries.
The institute also recently received a coveted NABL accreditation for its Medical Devices Testing and Calibration Facility making it the only such govt facility in the entire Northeast.
Started in 2015, NIRF Rankings are released annually by the Ministry of Education assessing the quality and performance of higher educational institutions in India.
The overall ranking is prepared based on parameters such as Teaching, Learning, Resource Quality, Research, Professional Practice, Graduation Outcomes, Outreach, Inclusivity and Peer Perception.
