No change in leadership in Pradesh Congress in Assam: AICC
All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary and in-charge of Assam Congress, Jitendra Singh, on Saturday, dismissed rumours of any plans by the party’s high command to change the leadership within the Assam Congress.
Singh clarified that there is no ongoing discussion or intention to replace the current leadership in the state unit of the Congress party.
Singh’s statement aims to quell speculation about potential leadership changes in view of 18 Congress MLAs signature campaign for change in the party leadership.
Speaking to reporters in Dibrugarh ahead of the extended executive meeting of the Assam Congress scheduled in Charaideo on Sunday, Singh clarified that the decision to change a state president rests solely with the AICC, and as of now, there is no such campaign within the party’s high command.
Singh expressed strong support for Bhupen Kumar Borah stating that Borah is performing well in his role. Singh highlighted that Borah has been actively working in interior villages to strengthen the party at the grassroots level.
Singh further said that the ruling BJP is spreading rumours about a leadership change to create division among Congress workers, as they are concerned about the growing efforts and influence of the Congress under Borah’s leadership.
He emphasized that there is no internal campaign or plan for a leadership change within the Congress party.
Singh confirmed that former Rajya Sabha member Ripun Bora, who resigned from the Trinamool Congress on September 1, is in contact with the Congress leadership regarding his potential return to the party.
Singh acknowledged Bora’s contributions as a senior leader within the Congress and expressed openness to his return, stating, “We welcome his coming back to the party.”
This development signals a possible homecoming for Bora, a prominent political figure in Assam.
