No Cong MLA is joining BJP: Mukul Sangma
SHILLONG: Leader of Opposition Mukul Sangma has categorically maintained that no Congress MLA is joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
“Nobody is joining the BJP…I know them (Congress MLAs) and that I can assure you,” Sangma, who is also leading the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) said.
Putting all speculations to rest, the former chief minister said, “As far as the members of the CLP are concerned, we are all there to respond as responsible leaders and are all there to respond as a team and as a CLP and deliver as an effective and responsible opposition.”
Sangma had earlier rejected a recent media report for alleging that he is likely to join the saffron party.
The Congress leader informed that he had also asked the cyber cell of the Meghalaya police to verify the source of the misinformation campaign and take necessary action as per law.
“Because this is intended with deliberate and malafide intend through misinformation to create confusion, chaotic situation and also malign my position…its malicious and condemnable,” he said.
Asked on the action taken by the police, Sangma however said, “Let them (police) respond. They are expected to respond to their call of duty as per law. Now if they are moving as per law they will reply because I had only asked them to take necessary action as per law.”
On the recent statement made by East Shillong legislator Ampareen Lyngdoh, the CLP leader said the Congress has an inherent system on how to handle internal matters of the party.
“We have an inherent mechanism and we have dealt with these kinds of situations in the past and will continue to do so,” he said.
Reiterating that the CLP under his leadership is united, Sangma said he doesn’t know under what circumstances the personal view might have been expressed but all the members of the CLP are united.
He further informed that Lyngdoh had also attended the CLP for an impromptu discussion on various issues recently. According to him, the Congress MLAs are happy to play role of effective opposition. “We will respond to the call of duty and our strategy keeps on unfolding,” Sangma added.
