No gifts above Rs.10000 allow for people of Mawphlang and Mawryngkneng Constituencies

Till completion of the bye elections, the people of the two Assembly Constituencies namely Mawphlang and Mawryngkneng will not be allow to receive gifts items valued more than Rs.10000 due to promulgation of the Election Model Code of Conduct.

This is as per order issued by District Magistrate and District Election Officer, East Khasi Hills District, Isawanda Laloo, IAS to check bribery of voters during the conduct of any election and ensure the voters exercise the franchise freely and fairly without fear or inducement.

The order prohibited person or group of persons from carrying cash exceeding Rs.50,000 or gift items which are valued at more than Rs.10, 000 in the District.

The order has come into force and will remain till the completion of poll procedure to the two assembly constituencies at Mawryngkneng and Mawphlang slated to be held on October 30.

Laloo also said that information has been received that some persons are likely to carry large amounts of cash likely to be used for inducement of electors.
