No need for NGOs to take law in their own hands, Govt committed to have anti-influx mechanism: CM

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said NGOs will not be allowed to take law into their own hands since the state government is committed to ensure an anti-influx mechanism is in place.

His reaction came a day after the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has threatened to implement its own inner-line permit (ILP) if the Centre further delays to approve the resolution passed by the state Assembly.

“There is no need for such actions to be taken by anybody and obviously this is something that cannot be allowed also. The government will ensure law and order is maintained,” Sangma told reporters after a review meeting held on Wednesday.

Stating that there is a sincere effort from the government side, the chief minister said, “Even the Governor has assured that he will take up the matter with the Centre not just for ILP but also for the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act (MRSSA).”

At the same, Sangma also assured that the government is committed to monitor the people who are coming into the state as he informed the much-awaited entry point at Umling in Ri Bhoi district is ready physically.

“We are just training the manpower now and within a matter of days we should be seeing the entry point being activated.Therefore, clearly people will see that there is a committed effort and a commitment from the state government side to ensure that we have a mechanism in place,” he stated.
