No question of realignment, NPP to continue to work with MDA coalition partners: Meghalaya CM
Chief Minister and NPP national president Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday made it clear that there is no question of realignment as his party would continue to work with the MDA coalition partners for stability of the government.
Speaking to media persons, Sangma said, “Regarding the issue of the numbers, yes we are very happy that the NPP today has 32 MLAs and as mentioned correctly that it is only after APHLC that this number by a particular party has come. So we are very thankful and we would like to thank God and thank the people for this confidence that they shown in us.”
“We have been very clear from day one as a party, as a coalition and as a chief minister, we are here to send a positive message to the people of the state. – yes politics is very complicated, it is very dynamic and there are many factors that comes in us but in the long run I think the message of stability and message of trust and message of confidence is important in politics also and inspite of the fact that we have numbers, we are sticking with our partners. We have shown our confidence in them, they have shown their confidence in us and we would like to see we work in the long run for the stability of the state and overall economic growth of the state. Therefore, there is no question of any realignment or anything like that,” he stated.
“Yes, there could be challenges within the coalition. There could be differences among political parties, we may not agree on so many things that we would like to do but that’s the nature of a coalition and politics but at the end what we agree on is that we should work together with full commitment for the overall development of the state and that is what is at the centre what we try to do as a coalition. I would like to once again reiterate that our full support as well as our full confidence, question of realignment is not there and all the partners are with us and we will continue to work together,”he added.
Further, Sangma said that all are NPP MLAs are very happy with the results and there is no such pressure on him to increase the number of ministers from the party.
“Our MLAs have shown confidence in the government and none of them have ever mention this to us but of course they would like to see more ministers would be there but we have to keep the larger picture and larger politics in mind it is not only about Garo Hills region, Khasi or Jaintia Hill region it is about the entire state of Meghalaya and it is to see we moved in a balance way and carry everybody along and when it comes to local MLAs and their issues, we have been very particular, we give alot of attention to the issues that are raised by the MLAs and try to resolve and so I have seen there is a sense of satisfaction of course there will always be a desire and a demand but none of them had mentioned that to me openly but I have seen they have full trust and confident in the government and in the leadership and we will continue to work for the larger interest of the state,”he said.
Thanking the people of Gambegre for their support and vote of confidence in the recent bye election, Sangma said, “This constituency maybe one of the most tougher constituencies for us specially in the Garo Hills region because in the last four elections, we have never won from this constituency and we have always been number 3rd position.”
“It was a very tough election and but I am thankful to everybody for having supported and work for us to win this election and we got support from all quarters,”he added.
