Non-tribal leaders alleges the Syiem of Sohra for conspiring against tribal people
Leaders of the Dharambosti, Chaklabosti, Bholaganj and Alubari on Monday alleged that the Syiem of Hima Sohra of falsely accusing them of secretly holding meetings with people from outside and conspiring against the tribal people.
This was stated in a statement issued by the five leaders including the chairman of Dharambosti, Subash Roy, secretary Dharambasti, Bikash Dutta, secretary Bholaganj, Naresh Chandra Singha, secretary Alubari, Phoni Dutta and chairman Chaklabosti, Adhir Das.
The statement said on October 24 (Saturday), the Syiem of Sohra called them in his branch office at Majai to conduct a meeting which lasted from 2 PM to 5 PM to know about the problems faced by the people of these areas.
The leaders alleged that in the meeting they were falsely accused of secretly holding meetings with people from outside and conspiring against the tribals to ruin the image of the state.
They said questions were put to them and by way of manipulative, scheming, shrewd and cunning tactics of questioning, they were confused by the Syiem and his associates and forced them to give certain statements against the interest of the non tribals of the areas.
“The companions/associates of the Syiem (numbering about 25 individuals) illegally and without our consent recorded the entire session, however later they doctored/manipulated/altered the video and made it look as if we and other non tribals of these areas are the actual defaulters,” the non-tribal leaders said.
“Furthermore, a question was put to us about the three individuals of these areas who went to the Governor to meet him and submit a memorandum, and the question was twisted in such a way and words were put in our mouth so as to show that we were unaware of the fact that the three individuals would go to the Governor and they went without consulting us.
Thereby, trying to show to the world that a big conspiracy is going on against the Tribals and the actual victims (i.e., the non tribals) are the perpetrator whereas the tribals are the actual victims,” they stated.
The leaders said during the meeting, they had stated that the non tribals are not allowed to do business and they are not getting trading licenses and that they have written to the syiem many times regarding the NOCs but were not given the same even after giving applications several times.
They also alleged that the doctored/manipilated/altered video has been made viral and has reached several media houses, which is destroying the image of the non tribals of these areas and furthermore is destroying and defaming the three individuals who went to meet the governor.
“The fact is that we the people of these areas are tortured mentally in such a way that we are exhausted of this indifference by the Syiem of Sohra/President, Secretary of New Majai Local Exporters Forum and thus we requested the three individuals to submit a representation to the Hon’ble Governor, where around 4000 to 5000 people signed the memorandum and explain the hardships that we are facing here,” they clarified.
“Further, we would like to make out point very clear that we will not made puppets of the syiem or his associates to act at his will and to ensure that if needed we would gladly resign from our posts but we will not be called liars by our people. The doctored video showcase us in the image molded and framed by the syiem and his associates and does not bear any truth,” they added.
Meanwhile, the leaders also strongly condemned the act of manipulative politics. “On record would like to state that the doctored video is nothing but a way of manipulating the facts and circumstances and situation faced by the non tribals of Bholaganj-Ichamati areas,” they stated
